ORGANIZATION

An organized pantry provides a slew of benefits. Most obviously, a higher degree of order makes your relationship with your pantry a whole lot better. But it can also drive you to make healthier eating choices, waste less food, get more creative or diverse with what you make, just to name a few.
Exposure to hyper-uniform and symmetrical pantries on TikTok or Instagram can make the task can seem unapproachable and so daunting that it feels out of reach. To help overcome this and get your pantry in a state that serves you better, I've assembled a quick how-to guide to get you started.
Step one: Take everything out, no cheating! It’s important to start from a clean slate so remove everything and wipe down the surfaces.
Step two: Group everything into categories. For example, use categories such as [snacks], [boxed and canned goods], [oils, dressings, spreads], and [baking supplies]
Step three: Rank those categorize. For example, rank each of the above categories by usage frequency high, medium, low. If you’re also looking to improve your eating habits, another ranking option could be by nutrition value high, medium, low.
Step four: Map where you will put each category. A little strategy goes a long way, consider what your most common kitchen workflows are and leverage this step to add more ease and order to them.
Step five: Start restocking. Keep your categories together. Relegate the low ranking items to the back and work your way to the high ranking items in the front.
Optional step: Repurpose glass jars or purchase new ones like these to treat yoself with some pleasing pantry aesthetics. I repurpose glass jars because I love the eclectic look and saving the planet. While it may seem frivolous, I personally believe this is a game-changer.
